QUIET STUDY · BY DAMEMO

Privacy policy

Clear information about your data.

Effective October 9, 2026 · Public extension 8.2.0

At a glance

Your extension data stays on this device. Quiet Study has no publisher accounts, analytics or automatic AI uploads. Canvas and optional external services still receive requests you initiate.

Quiet Study is developed by damemo. It personalizes Canvas and provides a local student workspace. It is independent of Instructure, Canvas and BetterCampus.

Data used

On authorized Canvas school pages, Quiet Study reads course and account identifiers, course names and images, assignments and quizzes, due dates, submission/completion state, grades, assignment groups, announcements and scheduling information needed for its features. Your existing Canvas session authenticates same-origin HTTPS requests to your school's Canvas service using browser-managed session cookies. When you explicitly save or restore a supported Canvas course color, Quiet Study reads Canvas's CSRF token from the page cookie and sends it only to that Canvas service with the request. Session cookies and CSRF tokens are not saved in extension storage or exported backups. Quiet Study does not ask for or store your login password, or send authentication information to its publisher. Connected school domains and course/assignment resource URLs are used and retained as needed to connect the school and open study links; Quiet Study does not collect your general browsing history or unrelated websites.

You may add local tasks, notes, study sets, grade estimates, plans, imported files, microphone recordings, artwork and appearance preferences. The app stores local completion/review history and focus sessions for progress tools. Microphone access is requested only when you start recording; audio is saved locally.

Storage and sharing

Extension data is stored in Chrome's local extension storage on this device. A clearly labeled sample mode stores separate synthetic data in browser local storage. The extension has no publisher account, publisher server, advertising SDK or analytics service. It does not sell personal data or transfer your Canvas content, notes or recordings to its publisher or an AI service.

Canvas requests go to your authorized school's Canvas service. Explicitly saving a supported course color can send that selected color to Canvas. Exports create a local file; clipboard sharing is initiated by you. An optional external AI/provider link opens the provider you choose; copying or sending content there is your separate action. HTTPS image URLs you choose, and images served by Canvas, are loaded from their source hosts, which receive normal network information such as your IP address. Chrome and Canvas may process data according to their own policies.

Permissions

Storage saves local designs and study data. Scripting installs the Canvas interface on authorized school pages. Active-tab access checks the Canvas tab you connect. Alarms schedule local refreshes and reminders. Access to *.instructure.com permits Canvas integration. Other HTTPS school hostnames require an additional, site-specific permission when you connect them. Desktop notifications are optional. No global web browsing history or password collection is a feature.

Control, retention and security

Use Settings to export a backup, disconnect a school, clear local data or reset the extension. Disconnecting stops connection access but does not itself erase all local notes or backups. Reset clears app data; uninstalling removes extension storage. Remove downloaded backups/exports separately. Data remains locally until you remove it; Chrome/browser-profile backups or synchronization outside this extension may have separate retention. Backups and recordings can contain sensitive school information, so protect files you export. This extension does not provide cloud backup or encryption of local browser storage.

Limited use

Quiet Study uses user data only to provide its stated Canvas personalization and study features. Its use of information received from Canvas follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Quiet Study does not sell user data, use it for personalized advertising, or use it for creditworthiness or lending decisions.

Website and support

The Quiet Study website is hosted on GitHub Pages. The site contains static pages and local images, with no analytics scripts, advertising trackers, contact forms or site-created cookies. GitHub processes normal hosting request information, such as IP addresses, under its own privacy statement: GitHub Privacy Statement. Visiting this website does not give it access to your Canvas account or extension storage.

If you submit a support or privacy question through GitHub Issues, GitHub receives your account information and the content you submit. Issues are public, so do not include passwords, session tokens, student identifiers, grades, recordings, private notes or unredacted screenshots. You can ask a general privacy question without sharing school information. GitHub support submissions follow GitHub's privacy and retention practices; they are separate from local extension data.
